Cambodia has been portrayed as the most pro-China country in Southeast Asia. We argue that such views oversimplify and overgeneralize Cambodia’s agency and its perception of China. Acknowledging the multifaceted nature of Cambodians’ perceptions of China, we examined these perceptions using data from our extensive survey in the capital city and 11 provinces. We identify several key factors influencing these perceptions, which vary significantly across regions and groups. The data indicate a multifaceted and evolving relationship between Cambodia and China. While Cambodia’s economic growth and Chinese investments have strengthened ties between the two nations, it is crucial to recognize the diversity of perceptions among Cambodians. Policymakers and stakeholders in both Cambodia and China should consider these nuances to foster mutually beneficial partnerships.

In recent years, although Cambodia has achieved economic growth at remarkable rates, its poverty situation, especially in rural area, is still widely observed, and poverty reduction is still a priority in the government's policy agenda. The information on financial diaries of poor households can provide good implications for designing policy to combat poverty. Understanding this importance, a project collecting financial dialy data in Cambodia was proposed. In preparation, a preliminary survey on randomly selected households in a selected commune was conducted in February 2016. The survey questionnaire is divided into several main parts. This report presents the results and statistics from the household information collected in that survey, including household structures and characteristics and the migration of the household members.

The information on financial diaries (i.e., income, expenditure, financial transaction, etc.) of the poor can provide important implications for policy actions to improve their living standards. As the first attempt, this research constructed a database of financial diaries of poor households in rural Cambodia and analyzed the patterns in those financial diaries. Furthermore, it also implemented comparative studies on financial diaries of the poor in Cambodia and the poor in other countries. Various implications and new insights into financial diaries of the poor were obtained from this research.

This research aims to estimate and examine the money demand function and dollarization problem in developing countries. We specifically focus on the case of Cambodia, whose degree of dollarization is the highest among Southeast Asian countries. In this research, the money demand function that takes into account the dollarization phenomenon is estimated for the case of Cambodia. The stability of the estimated model is also tested. Furthermore, since the dollarization phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages for an economy, their examination is important. In order to examine this for the case of Cambodia, the dataset for the quantitative analyses is prepared, using the database and documents obtained from the institutions, such as the National Bank of Cambodia and the International Monetary Fund.
