The extension of the node map and three kinds of route calculation methods are constructed and evaluated on the basis of travel times and system acceptability survey results. Our findings reveal the effectiveness of the proposed route calculation method and the acceptability of the bicycle navigation system that included the method.

Specifically, in a positioning system using bluetooth low energy, the positioning performance of two types of positioning algorithms is performed using a plurality of smartphones. As a result, we confirmed that the fingerprint algorithm does not always provide sufficient positioning performance. It depends on the model of the smartphone used. On the other hand, the hybrid algorithm that the authors have already proposed is robust in the difference of the received signal characteristics of the smartphone. Consequently, we spotlighted that the use of multiple devices is essential for providing high-quality location-based services in real environments in the performance evaluation of radio wave-based positioning systems using smartphones.

We implement this system as a publicly-available smartphone application and evaluate its positioning performance near Omiya station's western entrance. We also evaluate users' subjective impressions of the system using a questionnaire. In both cases, promising results are obtained, showing that the PNCRM can be used as a tool for designing pedestrian navigation systems, allowing such systems to be created systematically.

This paper presents two new types of markers of M-CubITS (M-sequence Multimodal Markers for ITS; M-Cubed for ITS) that is a ground-based positioning system, in order to advance the WYSIWYAS (What You See Is What You Are Suggested) navigation environments providing intuitive guidance. One of the new markers uses warning blocks of textured paving blocks that are often at important points as for pedestrian navigation, for example, the top and bottom of stairs, branch points, and so on. The other uses interlocking blocks that are often at wide spaces, e.g., pavements of plazas, parks, sidewalks and so on. Furthermore, we construct the integrated pedestrian navigation system equipped with the automatic marker-type identification function of the three types of markers (the warning blocks, the interlocking blocks, and the conventional marker using guidance blocks of textured paving blocks) in order to enhance the spatial availability of the whole M-CubITS and the navigation system. Consequently, we show the possibility to advance the WYSIWYAS navigation environments through the performance evaluation and the operation confirmation of the integrated system.

本論文では,処理方式の異なる三種のM-CubITS歩行者WYSIWYASナビゲーションシステム(端未処理型,メールサーバ処理型,ウェブサーバ処理型)の比較を,歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルに基づいて行っている.まず,歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルを解析ツールとした三者比較を行い,各処理方式の特徴を明らかにしている.次に,この三者比較結果に鑑みて,三種の実験システムが共通に動作するモバイル機器を用いた比較実験を行い,規格化旅行時間に対する累積目的地到達率とユーザビリティに関して歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルの構成要素である応答のリアルタイム性(システムレイヤ),情報取得に必要な操作回数(サービスレイヤ),通信量(要素技術レイヤ)の三要素の影響が大きいことを示している.

本論文では,ポジショニングサブシステムのマイグレーションを考慮したプラットホーム指向の歩行者WYSIWYASナビゲーションシステムを提案している.提案システムでは,建物内や建物付近の屋外でシームレスに動作し,かつ,WYSIWYASナビゲーションの実現に必要な位置情報と方向情報を他の位置特定手法と協調することなく取得可能なポジショニングサブシステムとして,タイルカーぺットを用いたM-CubITSと可視光通信を採用している.大型商業複合施設内で目的地の名称のみが分かっている状況での移動を想定した評価実験では,提案システムにおけるポジショニングサブシステムの位置特定成功率,処理時間,移動所要時間,ユーザビリティについて評価を行っている.その結果,提案システムを用いることで,固定の案内板や手持ちの地図などを用いるよりも短時間で確実に目的地に到達できることから,提案システムの歩行者ナビゲーションシステムとしての有効性を確認している.

本論文では,歩行者ナビゲーションシステムの分類学に鑑みて,既存及び今後出現するあらゆる歩行者ナビゲーションシステムに適用可能で,歩行者ナビゲーションシステムの性格付けを目的とした解析や標準化のためのツールとして,歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルを提案している.提案する歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルは,ユーザに提供するサービスについてまとめたサービスレイヤ,歩行者ナビゲーションシステムの基本構成についてまとめたシステムレイヤ,歩行者ナビゲーションシステムを実現する上で必要な要素技術についてまとめた要素技術レイヤの3階層からなり,各レイヤは4〜5種類のカテゴリーで細分化されている.また,提案する歩行者ナビゲーションコンセプトリファレンスモデルを用いて,既存の代表的な歩行者ナビゲーションシステムの性格付けとその性格を比較する具体例を示し,各システムの性格及び特徴の違いを明確にしている.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance to the efficiency of positioning with Wireless LAN in the parking lot. We evaluate the performance of positioning with Scene Analysis by Wireless LAN in typical parking lot of outdoor. A variety of conditions to reveal the efficiency of positioning with Wireless LAN in parking lot. Arrangement of the wireless LAN access point, assumed users, positioning efficiency of the vehicle in static and dynamic, and direction of the vehicle are listed. We evaluate effects for positioning performance by the variety of conditions.

This paper describes smartphone positioning performance using wireless LAN (Wi-Fi; Wireless Fidelity) in an event hall that Wi-Fi radio wave environments are different between learning data and evaluation data. From the results, the previously mentioned environments, e.g., event halls, airports, and shopping malls, have the following differences: 1) the number of people, 2) existstence of mobile routers and tethering terminals, 3) use state of Wi-Fi, so that the positioning error becomes large as a sequel to the change of BSSID(Basic Service Set Identifier) and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator).

This paper discusses positioning infrastructures used by mobile devices such as smart phones or tablet computers including positioning data from the viewpoint of the systems innovation theory. The error generating mechanism of mobile devices' positioning for location based services (LBS) is explained as three layer's consideration, that is, applications as the upper layer, mobile device platforms as the middle layer, and sub-platforms as the lower layer, such as the GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile phone base-stations. Actual positioning data are also introduced. Finally, positioning infrastructures for mobile devices are discussed including IMES.

This paper describes the positioning performance improvement of the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system using textured paving blocks. First, in image processing, we introduce dilation and erosion, and then evaluate the performance of the guidance blocks shot at outdoor. Second, we evaluate the positioning performance of the warning blocks attaching redundant bits. Last, we introduce the k-means classification on color extraction, and the evaluate the guidance blocks shot at outdoor, the warning blocks shot at indoor/outdoor. As a result, we show possibility of the proposed method in various photographic environments without parameter tuning of the color extraction.

This paper describes the construction of the Mobile/Infrastructure Collaborative Operation based pedestrian navigation Systems. We have carried out experiment that subjects carry route guidance statements by mobile device, that route guidance statements have been displayed on the screen of Kiosk type equipment. The results show suitable combinations of a route guidance statements. Furthermore, we reveal suitable presentation method of route guidance statements and maps on Kiosk type equipment, to verify effects of carrying route guidance statements and maps. The result show that route guidance statements are important in complex routes if route guidance statements and maps are displayed on the screen of Kiosk type equipment.

This paper presents effectiveness of dedicated access points in smartphone positioning systems using wireless LAN in indoor/outdoor environments. Positioning experiments are carried out using two kinds of access points (general/ dedicated)in various situations such as a gymnastic hall, a ground, and a courtyard. After basic positioning performance evaluations in each typical situation mentioned above, efifects of access points on positioning performance are examined with varying the number of additional dedicated access points. Results show that deployment of dedicated access points is effective on positioning performance.

This paper describes the construction of the Kiosk type Pedestrian Navigation Systems. There is a Pedestrian Navigation experiment in the Saitama university to clarify that suitable route guidance statements and presentation method for the Kiosk type Pedestrian Navigation Systems. As a result, M is excellent until three point of Route Complexity I , however from three point L is excellent. M is excellent until point four six of Route Complexity II, however from point four six L is excellent. Furthermore, if both the landmark on the way and the final landmark are introduced, the achievement rate is high and the deviation rate is low. If a pedestrian wants to arrive in a short time, the landmark on the way is preferentially. Even if for a long time the achievement is important, final landmark is preferentially.

In this paper, due to realize the virtual planning office (VPO), the concept of the VPO is clarified and the fundamental system is constructed. In addition, the Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) of the system is evaluated. In the VPO, consumers engage in planning by transmitting their subtle tastes and feeling about products to suppliers at a shop. Then, consumers use the ubiquitous clerk which is an electronic concierge. The consumers' planning data which ubiquitous clerks got are sorted and provided to a real planning office (RPO) by the virtual designer (VD). Thus, the environment where consumers can participate in real planning as a VD is the VPO. In this paper, the system shows an example of information which is gotten only in the VPO. Besides, the usability test results of the HMI of the system suggest the possibility that the HMI draw out consumers' feeling. These results bring knowledge and vision toward realizing the VPO.

This paper describes research trends of pedestrian navigation systems from a viewpoint of taxonomy by analysis of published years and cumulative numbers of papers about position maps for classifying navigation systems, positioning methods and human-machine interfaces(HMI)as elemental technologies, and functions and targeted users of pedestrian navigation systems. As the result of the analysis, we get clear-cut view of main research fields of pedestrian navigation systems and fields not enough considering.

This paper describes taxonomy of pedestrian navigation systems. First, we present four indexes -object person, navigation area, user's belongings, and navigation region- for classifying pedestrian navigation systems. Then, we show two position maps for classifying them using the indexes, and examples of mapping typical pedestrian navigation systems. And also, we get a perspective of the systematization of evaluation methods of pedestrian navigation systems from organizing evaluation methods, questionnaire item, and the number of subjects of pedestrian navigation systems.

This paper proposes the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system using interlocking blocks that are in widespread use. We discuss a method of m-sequences allocation for positioning information expression on interlocking blocks, and performance evaluation is carried out by experiments. Finally, We make clear effectiveness of the proposed system.

This paper describes the taxonomy of pedestrian navigation systems using contactless-ICs and proposes the MI WyNE Box that provides intuitive pedestrian navigation environments by using the free area of the contactless-ICs on the mobile phone terminals as human-machines interface (HMI). The MI WyNE Box obtains navigation information by not the links between tag-IDs and destination information like the conventional systems, but the destination information recorded on the free area of the contactless-ICs. Then, we develop the MI WyNE Box and check system operation. Consequently, we make clear potential of MI WyNE Box that provides the pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation environments.

This paper proposes the server-based WYSIWYAS pedestrian navigation system with audio guidance. The proposed system provides route guidance to users with platform independence by processing on the server and sending an e-mail with route information to the user. It also provides audio route guidance to visually impaired people using their Raku-Raku PHONE. We construct an experimental system, set the small scale and assembly type M-CubITS elements, and carry out experiments for subjects without visually impairments. It is shown that all subjects arrive at destinations using the proposed system. We make clear effectiveness of the proposed system.

This paper describes construction of the pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system collaboratively using both M-CubITS and visible light communication. This system displays the suitable arrow by information of users' location and direction using both M-CubITS and visible light communication. Then, this system has databases and processing excluding positioning in common and the results are same visible light communication as M-CubITS. We carry out experiments for 10 subjects and the experimental results show that the rate of correct direction is 81% in case of visible light communication and 59% in case of M-CubITS. Furthermore, according to the result of questionnaire about usability tests, such usability indexes as "operationality", "visibility", "feelings", and "usefulness" are more than 80%.

Visible Light Communications that has attracted attention recently. has following characteristics.We can find the lightings that is transmitter visually and we can control coumunication area easily. This paper proposes the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system for intuitive guidance using tile carpets that are wide spread in buildings. We adopt tile carpets instead of textured paving blocks that we have used in our previous studies of the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system because of their wide spread use. In addition, since for setting up only exchange tile carpets are required and wide spread mobile phone devices can be used as users' devices, realization costs are extremely low. This paper discusses follows: how to use the tile carpets as M-CubITS elements, how to design Human-Machine Interface (HMI) of users' terminals, and how to implement the navigation software on the general purpose mobile phone devices. We carry out experiments under 25 destinations scale environments in two buildings using 660 tile carpets and the experimental result shows that the average processing success rate on users' terminals is approximately 59%, furthermore according to the result of questionnaire about usability tests, such usability indexes as "operationality", "visibility", "feelings", and "usefulness" are more than 80%. Consequently, we confirm the effectiveness of the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system using tile carpets suitable for indoor environments.

This paper describes proposal of the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation system for indoor areas, construction of the experimental system at a building in the faculty of engineering, Saitama University, and confirmation of the system operation, in preparation for realization of the M-CubITS pedestrian WYSIWYAS navigation environment. To apply conventional M-CubITS pedestrian navigation systems to this system, we build the database for positioning and path-searching, and also we use Dijkstra Method for solving the shortest route problem. Finally we check system operation by experiments.

This research aims to realize the pedestrian navigation environment collaborating with mobile devices and kiosk type equipment. In particular, 1) improving basic performance of the mobile type system and comparing processing method of the system, 2) evaluating guidance information of the kiosk type system and its presentation method, 3) verifying effects of taking route guidance statements presented on the kiosk type system to the mobile type system, 4) constructing the system with collaborative operation of mobile devices and kiosk type equipment. From the above, we have obtained knowledge on the basic design method of the pedestrian navigation systems with collaborative operation of mobile devices and kiosk type equipment and have shown the possibility of realizing the seamless pedestrian navigation environments.

This research tries to realize intuitive pedestrian navigation environments without understanding maps and guide sentences. In particular, we have proposed pedestrian navigation systems using widespread camera phones and sophisticated them. As a result, we have gotten various research results such as approach to realization of such systems, fundamental performance, and durability of markers. Moreover, we have gotten the important knowledge leading to the next phase of this field such as quantitative evaluation and investigation of social diffusion, through constructing experimental environments in Saitama University and Central Japan International Airport (Centrair).
