The standard Kronig-Penney model with periodic $\delta$ potentials is extended to the cases with generalized contact interactions. The eigen equation which determines the dispersion relation for one-dimensional periodic array of the generalized contact interactions is deduced with the transfer matrix formalism. Numerical results are presented which reveal unexpected band spectra with broader band gap in higher energy region for generic model with generalized contact interaction.

We present two estimation methods for camera rotation from two images obtained by the active camera before and after rotation. Based on the representation of the projected rotation group, quasi moment features are constructed. Camera rotation can be estimated by applying the singular value decomposition (SVD) or Newton's method to tensor quasi moment features. In both cases, we can estimate 3D rotation of the active camera from only two projected images. We also give some experiments for the estimation of the actual active camera rotation to show the effectiveness of these methods.

We prove that the separable and local approximations of the discontinuity-inducing zero-range interaction in one-dimensional quantum mechanics are equivalent. We further show that the interaction allows the perturbative treatment through the coupling renormalization.

We propose a new method to construct a four parameter family of quantum-mechanical point interactions in one dimension, which is known as all possible self-adjoint extensions of the symmetric operator T = Delta inverted right perpendicularC(0)(infinity)(R\{0}). It is achieved in the small distance limit of equally spaced three neighboring Dirac's delta potentials. The strength for each delta is appropriately renormalized according to the distance and it diverges, in general, in the small distance limit. The validity of our method is ensured by numerical calculations. In general cases except for usual delta, the wave function discontinuity appears around the interaction and one can observe such a tendency even at a finite distance level.

For a system of spinless one-dimensional fermions, the non-vanishing short-range limit of two-body interaction is shown to induce the wave-function discontinuity. We prove the equivalence of this fermionic system and the bosonic particle system with two-body $\delta$-function interaction with the reversed role of strong and weak couplings.

In this paper, we show that two-dimensional billiards with point interactions inside exhibit a chaotic nature in the microscopic world, although their classical counterpart is non-chaotic. After deriving the transition matrix of the system by using the self-adjoint extension theory of functional analysis, we deduce the general condition for the appearance of chaos. The prediction is confirmed by numerically examining the statistical properties of energy

We examine the spectral properties of three-dimensional quantum billiards with a single pointlike scatterer inside. It is found that the spectrum shows chaotic (random-matrix-like) characteristics when the inverse of the formal strength <(upsilon)over bar>(-1) is within a band whose width increases parabolically as a function of the energy. This implies that thr spectrum becomes random-matrix-like at very high energy irrespective to the value of the formal strength. The predictions are confirmed by numerical experiments with a rectangular box, The findings for a pointlike scatterer an applied to the case for a small but finite-size impurity. We clarify the proper procedure for its zero-size limit which involves nontrivial divergence. The previously known results in one- and two-dimensional quantum billiards with small impurities inside are also reviewed ed from the present perspective.

The coherent tunneling phenomenon is investigated in rectangular billiards divided into two domains by a classically unclimbable potential barrier. We show that by placing a pointlike scatterer inside the billiard, we can control the occurrence and the rate of the resonance tunneling. The key role of the avoided crossing is stressed.

We examine the quantum motion of two particles interacting through a contact force which are confined in a rectangular domain in two and three dimensions. When there is a difference in the mass scale of two particles, adiabatic separation of the fast and slow variables can be performed. Appearance of the Berry phase and magnetic flux is pointed out. The system is reduced to a one-particle Aharonov-Bohm billiard in two-dimensional case. In three dimension, the problem effectively becomes the motion of a particle in the presence of closed flux string in a box billiard.

We argue that the random-matrix like energy spectra found in pseudointegrable billiards with pointlike scatterers are related to the quantum violation of scale invariance of classical analogue system. It is shown that the behavior of the running coupling constant explains the key characteristics of the level statistics of pseudointegrable billiards.

We study the low-energy quantum spectra of two-dimensional rectangular billiards with a small but finite-size scatterer inside. We start by examining the spectral properties bf billiards with a single pointlike scatterer: The problem is formulated in terms of the self-adjoint extension theory of functional analysis: The condition for the appearance of so-called wave chaos is clarified. We then relate the pointlike scatterer to a finite-size scatterer through an appropriate truncation of the basis. We show that the signature of wave chaos in low-energy states is most prominent when the scatterer is weakly attractive. As an illustration, numerical results of a rectangular billiard with a small rectangular scatterer inside are exhibited.

We examine the quantum energy levels of rectangular billiards with a pointlike scatterer in one and two dimensions. By varying the location and the strength of the scatterer, we systematically find diabolical degeneracies among various levels. The associated Berry phase is illustrated, and the existence of localized wave functions is pointed out. In one dimension, even the ground state is shown to display the sign reversal with a mechanism to circumvent the Sturm-Liouville theorem.

The one-dimensional scatterings by a target with two internal degrees of freedom are investigated. The damping of resonance peaks and the associated appearance of fluctuating background found in the quantum inelastic amplitudes are related to the disorderly reaction function in the analog classical system.

The chaotic dynamics in nuclear collective motion is studied in the framework of a schematic shell model which has only monopole and quadrupole degrees of freedom. The model is shown to reproduce the experimentally observed global trend toward less chaotic motion in heavier nuclei. The relation between current approach and the earlier studies with bosonic models is discussed.

In this paper, we examine the level-spacing distribution P(S) of the rectangular billiard with a single pointlike scatterer, which is known as almost integrable. It is shown that the observed P(S) is a new type, which is quite different from the previous conclusion. Even in the strong-coupling limit, the Poisson-like behavior rather than Wigner-like behavior is seen for S1, although the level repulsion still remains in the small-S region. The difference from the previous works is analyzed in detail. © 1993 The American Physical Society.

The level spectra of the interacting boson model for the whole range of parameters which span over three dynamical symmetries are analyzed in terms of the nearest-neighbour level-spacing distribution, and the "quantum chaos map" is charted. Strongly chaotic level spectra are seen in between SU (3) and O (6) symmetries. Unexpected persistence of Poisson statistics is found along the line connecting U (5) and O (6) symmetries. We argue that this is to be identified with the Berry-Robnik distribution with high division number arising from the preserved O (5) subsymmetry.
