The purpose of this paper is to discuss the importance of narrative approach in organization studies and practice. Narrative or story has discussed organization studies and practitioners in several years. Each of the studies clarify the life world among organizations, or invent tools of organizational change. However, such studies or practices has not sufficiently reviewed critically. As a result, it is unclear that why we should discuss narrative seriously. This paper clarifies the theoretical importance of narrative approach and clarify the theoretical and practical contribution in organization studies and practices in contemporary managerial condition. Future challenges of narrative approach will be discussed in conclusion.

Researches based on social constructionism had been a focal point in organization studies since around 1980. The purpose of this article is to clarify the theoretical background of social constructionist organization studies during the early stage and to figure out their relationships to contemporary studies. This article discusses works of Weick and Morgan, as examples of early social constructionist theorists, to find out the following three remaining issues, in light of the Bateson’s frame theory: protean, chain and mediate perspectives. Furthermore, this study clarifies that four contemporary research streams have been developed on the three perspectives in addition to conventional perspectives.

Regarding English language education as a part of multicultural education, this study aims at (1) developing teaching practices that bring about global citizens who can critically examine the power dimension in intercultural communication and, by doing so, (2) contributing to actualizing the multicultural society. In this context, being critical means rather a positive posture with which students can decipher the constructing process of reality and act out to constitute it through active and collaborative communication with Others. The idea of English speech activities as dialogue is the key to implement such critical teaching practices. In concrete, students can be engaged in critical thinking and verbal communication by integrating some elements of collaborative learning as well as dialogues with Others that represent various values into practices. In addition, restructuring organizations that support dialogical instruction is inevitable.

The purpose of this research is to construct a new research perspective that contributes to realize organizational ethics. Two research approaches, normative approach and critical approach, have been engaged on organizational ethics previously. Both of these approaches have clarified norm or oppressive aspects of ethical rules, plans or organizational structure. However, these research approaches have not clarified how to realize organizational ethics. In this regard, our research applies the insights from narrative approach of social constructionism to tackle above remaining issues. Narrative approach focuses on the generative aspect of dialogue between actors to generate social reality. Based on the insights, we propose generative aspect of organizational ethics thorough dialogical process.
