    The outcome of this study is the identification of the goals, contents, and methods of a legal education curriculum that fosters legal thinking and negotiation skills. The "goal" is to create order through the creation of norms, to stabilize order through the application of norms, and to restructure order through the transformation of norms. In terms of "content," the study of negotiation skills covers the "seven skills of negotiation" and "cognitive biases," the study of legal thinking covers "requirements and effects" and "benefit considerations," and the study of legal concepts covers "purposes and means. The "method" should be "mock negotiation" in the negotiation skills study, "judgment as a party or a third party" in the legal thinking study, and "conception, evaluation, and proposal of a legal system" in the legal concept study.

    In this study, "qualities and abilities" have been examined using teaching materials and textbooks as examples, and through discussions with people involved in legal education, issues and areas for improvement have been clarified. One particular achievement that can be shown as a result is that textbook analysis has not yet revealed a certain trend in learning related to civil law. Through textbook indexing analysis, we were able to show that "what content" and "how" to conduct learning related to civil law have not yet been determined. In addition, through interviews with people involved in legal education, we were able to identify issues in civil law education and suggest the need for the creation of teaching materials. We were then able to create examples of teaching materials for junior and senior high school students, which we produced and published as a book.

    The 2018 amendment to the Civil Code will make the age of majority 18 years old effective from April 1, 2022. At the same time as the amendment, various educational practices were launched, but most of these were biased towards "consumer education" rather than education for "18-year-old adults." For this reason, in this study, educational materials for "18-year-old adults" were created in collaboration with current teachers. A total of 18 teaching materials were completed and presented at academic conferences and at the "18-year-old Adulthood Educational Materials Development Research Project Research Presentation Session." The publication of teaching materials is currently in progress.

    In this study, we developed a school program focused on ethics in economics, centered on value concepts of happiness, efficiency, and fairness. Its organizing principle was ethical pluralism based on utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. We studied related curricula of schools in the USA, the UK, Australia, and Germany, and made a survey of the understanding of ethics in economics among about 1400 Japanese undergraduates and senior high school students. On the basis of this evidence, we developed 10 lesson plans and confirmed the validity of the lesson plan “Role-play of a doctor and a patient in conditions of asymmetric information.”
