Chinese manufacturing companies are facing challenges under severe global competition and wage rising in domestic market. They have to transform their organizations from low cost operation to higher quality and the more advanced technologies. Through the interview at Geely Automobile in Hang Zhou, China, we could identify a series of efforts for their transformation. The company executed strategic change in 2007 and quality management improvement in 2010. It has formulated a new corporate vision and strategy to provide the higher value to the customer, without participating into the cost competition in the market. In order to realize the strategy, the company has begun technical improvement instead of mimicking other companies products. It started to focus on in-house R&D, learning from world-top class company. M&A with Volvo is considered to be a typical learning example. As for quality management, the company aggressively brought competitors management essence into it, such as Toyota Production System. To facilitate such transformation, Mr. Li, the founder of Geely, played an essential leadership with foresight and logicality after all. Geelys transformation is not yet popular for all Chinese manufacturing companies, but some companies have already begun such a commitment to strategic change or quality improvement. However, our research is exploratory and we are not sure how much the spirit of quality management and improvement is penetrated in the actual workers.

The problem of platform leadership between telecommunication firms and contents providers stands out in the contents industry of South Korea recently. To achieve ubiquitous society, KT and SK Telecom that are major telecommunication firms in South Korea constructed the communication network infrastructure for ten years or more. They have done merger and acquisition for the contents companies one after another to take platform leadership in the contents business on such an infrastructure. In this paper, we focus on the analysis of the strategy that telecommunication firms like KT and SK Telecom use to take platform leadership in contents industry of South Korea. Moreover, we analyzed how KT and SK Telecom had relations with the contents firms which were the supplementation traders to make use of its own organizational capability as a telecommunication provider of the fixed network infrastructure and the mobile communication infrastructure. As a result of the case analysis, we found that KT has constructed comparatively cooperating relationships with contents firms, but SK Telecom has constructed aggressive contents strategy through M&A. And it was suggested that there was direct relation among contents strategies of telecommunication firms like KT and SKT, its own organizational capabilities and organizational structure.

It is said that organizational capability (core competence) which primarily distinguishes a company from other organizations and provides a company with a competitive advantage is very important for the organization. Since 1990's, strategic alliances have been done as a kind of means among firms to acquire organizational capability that is not. However, intra-industry strategic alliances conceive a lot of risks for the organizational culture developed in a different environment. Is it possible for an inter-industry strategic alliance to succeed? What role does the organizational capability play in strategic alliance? In this research, we analyzed success factors through a case study for STLCD of a joint venture between Sony Corporation and Toyota Industries Corporation. In our case, not only the organizational behavioral pattern but also the organizational capability of Sony Corporation and Toyota Industries Corporation are quite different. Generally, it is said that it is necessary to attempt a systematic, strategic, cultural adaptability to make inter-industry strategic alliances successful. As a result of the case analysis, we find that there are three factors to make it possible. First, there are different organizational capabilities to each other of joint venture companies, which esteems mutual organizational capability through formation of joint venture. Secondarily, mixture of organizational post is arranged. Thirdly, the frame of the decision making is constructed, and communication in the organization is activated. Findings suggest that the organization considering an strategic joint venture in the future should make efforts to find organizations supplementing its own organizational capability beforehand, and try to esteem mutual organizational capabilities.

If outsourcing of information system relates with the core competence that provides a company with a competitive advantage, under what conditions can it be done? Under this issue, we compared a Japanese company with a South Korean company. If information system relates with the core competence, the vendor company which acquires a competitive advantage may enter the business of the customer company. The analysis result of the case studies shows that two conditions are required in order to realize outsourcing. One is the precondition that if there is no competitive power in information system of the customer company, the customer company should have something like a patent that should work as a barrier to entry against the vendor company. There is the other condition which the customer company that introduced information system cannot immediately carry out internalization. Furthermore, it also became clear that there are two points as conditions for outsourcing contract to be successful. First, how to build and maintain confidential relations between the customer company and the vendor company and Second, to manage outsourcing project in order to adjust the process of outsourcing well.
